Ingredients

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1½ cups plain Greek yogurt Up to ½ cup additional plain Greek yogurt, if needed
Optional Finishing Ingredients
Egg Wash
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 tablespoon water
Topping
  • Everything bagel seasoning as needed
For the Pan
  • Nonstick cooking spray or parchment paper

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly coat a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Sift the self-rising flour into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Make a well in the center of the flour and add the Greek yogurt. Using a rubber spatula or wooden spoon, stir until the mixture begins to come together. The dough will initially look shaggy and feel somewhat sticky.
  4. If the dough is too dry to come together, add a little additional Greek yogurt 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough reaches a workable consistency.
  5. Knead for approximately 7 minutes, or until the dough becomes smooth and cohesive.
  6. Lightly flour your work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Using a dough cutter or bench scraper, divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
  7. Shape each portion into a ball, then create a hole through the center. Gently stretch the opening to form a bagel shape. Place the bagels onto the prepared baking sheet.
  8. For a more golden finish, brush each bagel with the optional egg wash. Sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning, if desired.
  9. Bake at 375°F for approximately 20–25 minutes, or until the bagels are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Allow the bagels to cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or toasted with your favorite toppings.

Notes

This recipe requires only two ingredients for the dough: self-rising flour and Greek yogurt.

The egg wash and everything bagel seasoning are completely optional.

If your dough feels too dry, add additional Greek yogurt 1 tablespoon at a time rather than adding a large amount at once. Depending on the flour and Greek yogurt you use, you may not need any extra at all.  A little stickiness in the beginning is normal.

Avoid adding too much additional flour while kneading, which can make the finished bagels dry and dense.
